About Sakeriver

My name is Mike Sakasegawa and this is my web site. That's straightforward enough. As for the rest, I always have trouble deciding what to say about myself. Which is weird, since you'd think one thing a blogger would be good at is talking about himself.

I'm a dad, husband, writer, photographer, web designer, and (to pay the bills) electrical engineer. That's kind of a lot of things to be, as a consequence of which I'm tired a lot. I live in San Diego, California with my wife, son, and dog. Of the four of us, I'm certainly the least charming, interesting, or attractive, which I'd say puts me in a pretty good position.

In stark contrast to all of the blogging advice columns I've read, I write here about most anything that crosses my mind. Often that means stories about my experience as a parent or reflections on my past or present situations, but I also present my opinions on everything from pop culture to bathroom etiquette. I post a new photo every weekday and I also review all the books I read and all the movies I see in the theater.

And, since I hear bulleted lists are good:

  • I'm a contributing writer at LifeAsAHuman.com.
  • You can follow me via Twitter.
  • There's a fairly active community forum here. Check it out; they're a great bunch.
  • I love sandwiches, Scotch, and Diet Coke. Not all at once, mind you.
  • I like my coffee black, bitter, and only moderately hot, so I guess that means coffee isn't the best metaphor for how I like my women.
  • I recently discovered that I can be thrown into a rage by the mention of Kate Gosselin.
  • As far as I know, I am in no way related to Sacajawea. And, no, I don't find the comparison to be particularly witty or insightful, though I have, at least, gotten past the point where it really bothers me anymore.
  • Aside from my brother, I am the only person I've ever met who is three-quarters Japanese.
  • I grew up in a small town in California's Central Coast region. It's taken me a long time to come to terms with the fact that I'm a SoCal resident now, but after over a decade living on this end of the state, I'm getting there.
  • The name "Sakeriver" is a loose translation of my last name. That's "sake" like the drink and "river" like, you know, a river.

Feel free to drop me a line if you think there's something that ought to be added to this list. Or anywhere else on the site, for that matter. I'm also available for writing assignments, web design projects, and photography shoots--prices are very negotiable, though it's worth noting that since I also have a full-time job, scheduling can be an issue.
